ANA direct is negative but dr still thinks lupus
New here. Hi all. Wasn’t sure where to post this but I feel like I need to talk about it. So I’ve had an extensive blood check done a few weeks ago and based on my symptoms, the dr said it sounds like lupus. She ordered the blood but the ANA came back negative. I saw another dr within the same practice, he went over my results a little more in depth but reviewed my symptoms and checked my skin. He, too, said it sounds like lupus. These aren’t rheumatologists but he wants me to see one in case my ANA was a false negative and because they haven’t been able to pinpoint another cause. I will also see a dermatologist.
Have any of you had a false negative and later tested positive?
things I’ve been feeling if anyone is in the same boat:
* joint pain, particularly in hands, wrists and knees
* redness along cheeks, nose and down my throat, upper chest
*photosensitivity (I had a picture to show my dr from the other day where I had hives on my arm from after 5-10 min being in the sun, cleared up a bit after I put a hoodie on).
*headaches
*muscle pains
*rashes - some itchy, some are just hives or redness that come and go
*bumps in my mouth - some hurt, some dont
*fatigue
*forgetfulness
*occasional chest pain, almost feels like a pulled muscle but it hurts my back and it’s impossible to take deep breaths or move around.

They mentioned a liver enzyme was elevated, not sure if that has anything to do with it but they’re not too concerned about that right now, advised a follow up in 6 months.
I’ve been prescribed a cream for the rashes which is anti fungal and steroid. Some areas have improved while others have worsened.
